Last month ActiGraph released a new version of our academic software platform, ActiLife 7. Our legacy ActiLife data processing software is designed to provide the flexibility researchers need to process and analyze wearable device data.  

For existing customers who are interested in switching to ActiLife 7, we’ve collected a few frequently asked questions below to inform your decision. 

What’s new in ActiLife 7? 

ActiLife 7 now gives researchers the capability to process both accelerometer and PPG sensor data collected with the ActiGraph LEAP® wearable device. This enables the collection of vital sign measures including heart rate, heart rate variability, inter-beat interval, and respiratory rate. Over the coming months, planned ActiLife 7 updates will support additional digital measures collected with ActiGraph LEAP, including skin temperature, steps taken, and raw IMU data.

Can I process PPG sensor data collected with the ActiGraph LEAP in ActiLife 6? 

No, PPG sensor data from the ActiGraph LEAP can only be processed in ActiLife 7. 

How do I upgrade to ActiLife 7 if I have an existing ActiLife 6 license? 

If you have an active term license for ActiLife 6, you can upgrade to ActiLife 7 free of charge.  

If you have a perpetual license for ActiLife 6, you can upgrade to ActiLife 7 by purchasing an ActiLife 7 license. We will be offering a discount through December 31st, 2024 to customers who would like to switch from a ActiLife 6 perpetual license to an ActiLife 7 license.

How can I tell which type of ActiLife 6 license I have?

What new functionality will be added to ActiLife 7 in the future? 

ActiGraph is planning to continue investing in ActiLife and is anticipating adding the following functionality in the near future: 

• Step Count and Skin Temperature, expected December 2024 
• IMU sensor data, expected late Q1 2025 
   

Is ActiLife 7 compatible with ActiGraph wearable devices other than the ActiGraph LEAP? 

Yes, ActiLife 7 is compatible with the GT3X device series, GT9X Link, and the ActiGraph LEAP wearable devices. 

Can I still use ActiLife 6? 

Yes, ActiLife 6 can still be used with GT3X and GT9X devices. However, if you would like to use the ActiGraph LEAP device, you will need to upgrade to ActiLife 7.
